FC4 (Industry Foundation Classes) is a global standard for data exchange in the construction industry. It aims to enhance data accuracy and ensure seamless interoperability between software platforms. As building information models (BIM) become more widespread and new construction laws emerge, IFC4 is playing a crucial role in building project approvals.
We have updated R-Group Baltic OÜ’s RSTEEL Tekla Structures tools to fully support this standard. These updates ensure that the design tools and products added to models meet IFC4 requirements. The updated tools include:
- RsteelColumnShoes (column shoes)
- RsteelBaseBolts (base bolts)
- RsteelWallShoe (wall shoes)
These updated tools are available for download from Tekla Warehouse, and more information can be found on RGroup’s website.

What Do the IFC4 Updates for RSTEEL Tools Include?
The IFC4 update brings key improvements to our tools. We have added IFC entity and subtype values, enhancing the classification of objects. For instance, objects created with these tools are now labeled as IfcDiscreteAccessory. This classification is especially useful for embedded items in concrete assemblies, such as precast concrete fittings.
Furthermore, we have applied a more precise categorization using the IfcDiscreteAccessoryTypeEnum classification. This enables a more accurate definition of product types and properties within the models. As a result, data transfer is smoother, and the models remain consistent and reliable across different platforms.

Why Is IFC4 Compatibility Important?
Using standardized data with IFC4 enables more accurate and optimized information exchange among all project stakeholders. As a result, BIM data can be used more efficiently, especially in automated production lines for precast concrete elements, without needing separate structural or component drawings.
Globally, many countries are adopting digital building models to improve project transparency and collaboration. Regulations now require BIM data in formats like IFC4 for both public and private construction projects. This ensures that all project participants work with compatible models, maintaining data accuracy throughout the entire project—from design to completion.
Our updates ensure that R-Group’s tools meet these evolving standards. They provide reliable and seamless data transfer at every stage of the project—from design and construction to long-term maintenance. These improvements help companies stay compliant with future digital construction requirements while benefiting from smoother collaboration and more efficient workflows.
